La Vall D´Uixó
With a population of 30,420 habitants, Vall d'Uixó is located in the district of the ‘Plana Baixa’, about 80km south of Alcocebre and 7 km inland from the sea. The area around Vall d'Uixó has been inhabited from Prehistoric times. During the Iberian periods, pre-Roman and Iberia-Romano, the population of the area was considerably expanded, this is demonstrated by various archaeological remains in the Punta d'Orleyl and other places in the area.
In Roman times, Vall d'Uixó was, again, heavily colonized, but the towns structure was not lost. Inside the current town there are archaeological remains of great importance, such as a Hispanic-Visigothic necropolis of the 6th and 7th century AD. There are a mass of remains from Islamic and Christian times that demonstrate that the population of the valley settled down in small settlements, next to the river Belcaire, with an economy based on the agriculture and the cattle raising.
